Weekly Opportunities

Weekly Volunteering

Below is a list of Weekly Volunteering Needs for the MAYS. We greatly appreciate your help and support.

To volunteer each week, please contact the Regional Orchestra Manager from your area here!

Stage Operations Manager

The Stage Operations manager handles set up and take down for rehearsals and concerts. This job requires moving chairs and stands for orchestra set up and take down. The operations manager should arrive about a half hour before rehearsal to set up and be prepared to take down orchestra set up after rehearsals.

At concerts, the operations manager is responsible for arriving about a half hour before the first call time for students in order to set up for a performance. This has to be coordinated each concert with the Artistic Directors and Program Manager.

Orchestra Managers

Each MAYS Orchestra and Ensemble has one Orchestra Manager and one Assistant Orchestra Manager.

Orchestra Managers are expected to arrive about a half hour early to rehearsals to help with any room set-up, and to help take attendance as students come to rehearsals. During rehearsals, the orchestra manager should stay in the room with their orchestra and assist with handing out music and other student needs. After rehearsal, the Orchestra Manager signs students out and makes certain they leave with an approved parent or adult.

Concerts: Both the Orchestra Manager and Assistant Orchestra Manager stay with their group throughout the duration of the concert—from student call time until the concert is finished.

Assistant Orchestra Managers

The Assistant Orchestra Manager should arrive about a half hour early to rehearsal to help with room set up and check with the Librarian to make sure no new parts need to be handed out during rehearsal. The Assistant Orchestra Manager should be in the rehearsal room as students arrive (Orchestra Manager signs them in when they arrive) and should stay in the rehearsal room to assist with student needs. The Assistant Manager helps sign students out at the end of rehearsals as well.

Concerts: Both the Orchestra Manager and Assistant Orchestra Manager stay with their group throughout the duration of the concert—from student call time until the concert is finished.

Librarian

The Librarian is in charge of all the music for all of the orchestras (MAYS Orlando and MAYS Lake County separately). The librarian ensures there are sufficient parts ready for handing out at rehearsals. The librarian gets instructions from the MAYS Artistic Directors or Program Manager about needs, and works with Orchestra Managers at rehearsals to disburse music.

Security

Security needs differ at MAYS Orlando and MAYS Lake County. In Orlando, a set of watchful eyes are needed at certain concerts and events.
