Students are given the opportunity to compete to perform their concerto with the MAYS’ top groups. Each season, an independent panel of judges will carefully listen and, using a rubric, will score each student who enters our Concerto Competition. The students with the highest scores will be invited to perform their concertos with the MAYS.
Concerto Competition Guidelines:
- Members of the MAYS will perform their concerto with their own piano accompanist (MAYS does not provide piano accompanists but can help you find one).
- The Artistic Directors will approve of your piece once it is submitted to make sure that it is a viable piece to perform with orchestra.
- Your concerto must be memorized to be considered a candidate for concerto competition. However, students may perform with printed music simply for the experience of performing and receiving feedback from the judges.
- All students will receive feedback from the judges.
The Concerto Competition will be judged by an independent panel of judges, and students will be scored. The students with the highest scores will have the chance to be a soloist with one of the MAYS orchestras.
